• 9 January - Demonstrations by the National Farmers' Association cause major chaos as farm machinery blocks many roads.
• 4 April - The Fianna Fáil Party makes a presentation to former Taoiseach Seán Lemass.
• 18 April - The Minister for Education, Donagh O'Malley, reveals his plan for a single multi-denominational University of Dublin. This would combine University College Dublin and Trinity College Dublin.
• 1 July - Jacqueline Kennedy goes racing at the Curragh with An Taoiseach Jack Lynch and Mrs. Máirín Lynch.
• 4 August - Senator Margaret M. Pearse, sister of Pádraig Pearse and Willie Pearse, the executed 1916 leaders, is 89 today. She is greeted by President de Valera.
• 4 September - Ireland's free post-primary school transport scheme begins. CIÉ brings 38,000 students to 350 schools.
• 4 November - An Taoiseach Jack Lynch returns to Dublin following talks on the European Community with General Charles de Gaulle in Paris.
• 2 December - The poet Patrick Kavanagh is buried in his native Inniskeen, County Monaghan.
• 4 December - The first independent computer in this country open at Shannon Airport.
• 29 December - The Minister for Labour, Dr. Patrick Hillery, announces details of a new redundancy payments scheme which takes effect from New Year's Day.

• 19 November - Jimmy O'Connor scores the world's fastest ever hat-trick in a first-class match when he scored three goals in 2 minutes and 13 seconds (some sources dispute this, and claim the actual time was 2 minutes and 14 seconds) for Shelbourne against Bohemians in a League of Ireland match at Dalymount Park.
