- 15 February - The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) (Malaysian Coast Guard) is founded.
- 1 April - Siti Nurhaliza held her concert in Royal Albert Hall, London for the first time.
- 20 May - Miri gained city status and became the second city of Sarawak
- June - A power blackout on northern peninsula Malaysia causes of the main cable transmission line grid near Serendah, Selangor, had broken down.
- July - Dr Judson Sakai anak Tagal, a Sarawak state assemblymen for Bakelalan, was killed in helicopter crash in Bakelalan, Sarawak.
- 10 July - The NKVE-Jalan Meru flyover (now Setia Alam Interchange) collapsed onto the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), killing two Bangladeshi workers and injuries to seven others.
- August - Mawi win the Akademi Fantasia Season 3 and become the Malaysian no.1 male singers.
- 9 August - Rakan Cop, Malaysian community police cops is launched.
- 10 August - The National Biofuel Policy is introduced.
- 11 August - Haze occurs in Klang Valley. A state of emergency was declared in Kuala Selangor and Port Klang.
- 27 August - Selangor was declared as the first developed state in Malaysia.
- 1 October - Kota Bharu was declared as the first Islamic city in Malaysia.
- 9 November - Azahari Husin, a Malaysian national and Islamic terrorist blew himself in a police raid on his hideout in Indonesia.
- 20 November - Endon Mahmood the wife of Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi dies. Her body was laid to rest at the Muslim cemetery in Taman Selatan, Precinct 20, Putrajaya.
- 29 November – First Monsoon Cup international regatta held in Terengganu.
- 6 December – Kelantan's DUN Pengkalan Pasir by-election, Barisan Nasional (BN) won in this elections.
- 14 December - The 11th ASEAN Summit and East Asian Summit were held in Kuala Lumpur.
