This is the Boston Bruins 84th season. This season the B's look to improve upon the accomplishments of the 2007-08 season, which included Boston's return to the NHL playoffs. The future looks promising with their young stars, such as Phil Kessel and Milan Lucic, the return of Patrice Bergeron, the improved goaltending of veteran Tim Thomas, and acquiring Michael Ryder, a 30 goal scorer, from the Montreal team. The Bruins began their season on the road on October 9, 2008, in Colorado versus the Avalanche, and the home opener was October 20, 2008, against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Transactions

Trades

On July 24, 2008, the Bruins traded Pascal Pelletier in return for Martin St. Pierre, a forward who played for the Blackhawks' AHL affiliate in Rockford, Illinois, last season.

On October 13, 2008, the Bruins traded Andrew Alberts to the Philadelphia Flyers for prospect Ned Lukacevic and a 2009 4th round draft pick. That trade help clear up some much needed cap room.
