Map of Kooyongkoot Creek and its tributaries

Kooyongkoot Creek, more commonly known as Gardiners Creek, is a waterway in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne part of the Yarra River catchment. Although in a few very sparse locations riparian remnant bushland survives, the majority of its length is badly urbanised and the creek suffers in much the same way other Melbourne eastern suburban waterways such as the Mullum Mullum and Koonung Creeks.

Over 30km in length, the creek begins at its source in Blackburn and flows in a westerly direction through much of Melbourne's eastern suburbs, ending in Richmond where it flows into the Yarra River. It's original name is Kooyongkoot from the Woiwurrung language, however the common name was given by early European settlers who named it after an early Melbourne land speculator and banker, John Gardiner, who settled on its banks in 1838. The shared use pedestrial/cycling track, Gardiners Creek Trail runs along its length.
