The Kerang-Koondrook Tramway was an Australian private railway of 5 ft 3 in (1,600 mm) broad gauge, running from the state owned Victorian Railways network at Kerang to the Murray River town of Koondrook. The 13.94 miles (22.43 km) long line was opened in 1889[1], with construction of this line costing £39,229 by 1920, paid out of a loan advanced by the Victorian Government.[2] In 1920 the line was controlled by the Kerang Shire Council,[2] being transferred to the Victorian Railways on February 1, 1952 and officially closed on March 3, 1981.[3] A description of a journey on the railway in 1938 is contained in an article in Australian Railway Historical Society Bulletin[1]. The regular passenger services on the line were withdrawn on December 16, 1976. The last train was a 102hp Walker railmotor, running a service for school children that was paid for by the Education Department. A railfan farewell special ran by 7RM ran on December 29, 1976.[4] References
