Poetry (from the Greek "ποίησις," poiesis, a "making" or "creating") is an art form in which language is used for its aesthetic qualities in addition to, or instead of, notional and semantic content. Poetry has a long history, and early attempts to define poetry, such as Aristotle's Poetics, focused on the various uses of speech in rhetoric, drama, song and comedy. Contemporary poets, such as Dylan Thomas, often identify poetry not as a literary genre within a set of genres, but as a fundamental creative act using language. Poetry often uses condensed forms and conventions to reinforce or expand the meaning of the underlying words or to invoke emotional or sensual experiences in the reader, as well as using devices such as assonance, alliteration and rhythm to achieve musical or incantatory effects.
In prosody, alliterative verse is a form of verse that uses alliteration as the principal structuring device to unify lines of poetry, as opposed to other devices such as rhyme.
The most intensively studied traditions of alliterative verse are those found in the oldest literature of many Germanic languages. Alliterative verse, in various forms, is found widely in the literary traditions of the early Germanic languages. The Old English epic Beowulf, as well as most other Old English poetry, the Old High German Muspilli, the Old Saxon Heliand, and the Old Norse Poetic Edda all use alliterative verse.
Alliterative verse can be found in many other languages as well, although rarely with the systematic rigor of Germanic forms. The Finnish Kalevala and the Estonian Kalevipoeg both use alliterative forms derived from folk tradition. Traditional Turkic verse, for example that of the Uyghur, is also alliterative.

Thomas Leoncini was born in La Spezia (Italy) on 31st of May 1985. Poet, writer, journalist. The projects for which Thomas Leoncini has worked have sold over 170000 copies only in Italy. He is writing poems, short stories, essays, songs and other material driven to spirituality and reflection, qualities that unfortunately today’s modern life is lacking more and more. His writing is aimed to help the other people, in order to discover and love themselves, to respect the proper virtues, the proper defects and the proper fears. In 2006 the roman publisher Sovera publishes the book entitled "Fai volare la tua anima" ("Let your soul fly") written by Thomas. In 2007 he collaborates with the Ornella Muti 's staff and writes the poems for Carolina and Naike Rivelli's calendar (Carolina and Naike are ORNELLA MUTI's daughter). In the same year the second book entitled "Ritratti di vita"("The portraits of life") gets published. “The portraits of life” treats the profound and actual themes such as drugs and darkness that surrounds it, peace and neat colours around it, violence and drama hidden inside, dreams and all the colours they contain. “The portraits of life” was written entirely by Thomas Leoncini and the text is entirely accompanied by photographs (all related to the topics of the book) by the photographer Magliozzi. Manuela Arcuri, Stefania Orlando, Miriana Trevisan among others have been posing for the photos included in the book. Each photo is accompanied by poems, stories or essays. “Let your soul fly” is a collection of poems, aphorisms, thoughts and soul pulsations born directly from the heart.

Tired with all these, for restful death I cry,
As, to behold desert a beggar born,
And needy nothing trimm'd in jollity,
And purest faith unhappily forsworn,
And guilded honour shamefully misplaced,
And maiden virtue rudely strumpeted,
And right perfection wrongfully disgraced,
And strength by limping sway disabled,
And art made tongue-tied by authority,
And folly doctor-like controlling skill,
And simple truth miscall'd simplicity,
And captive good attending captain ill:
Tired with all these, from these would I be gone,
Save that, to die, I leave my love alone.
