Our goals
  1. To provide guidelines and recommendations for articles that describe all aspects of Australia.
  2. To improve Wikipedia's coverage of Australia by creating, expanding, and maintaining such articles.
  3. To serve as the central point of discussion for issues related to Australia in Wikipedia.

Tables of contents and indexes, and related tasks

The following pages serve as tables of contents or indexes to Australia-related content on Wikipedia. They need to be developed, and maintained:

  • List of basic Australia topics - for its placement, see Lists of basic topics
    • Refine and maintain the List of basic Australia topics, a key guide on Wikipedia to Australia as a subject. It serves as a table of contents, summary, and topic outline of coverage on Australia and is the most useful tool on Wikipedia for exploring and understanding fundamental material about Australia (and how it fits together) on Wikipedia. Its purpose is an important one: it simply enables readers to see at a glance how the subject of Australia is broken down, what the main component topics are, and how they relate to each other - that is, how information on Australia is organized (here, and in the world-at-large). It is a site map and outline of knowledge that demystifies the subject known as "Australia". Because of its central role in the presentation of Wikipedia's coverage of this subject, it is very important to develop and maintain it to the highest level of quality: to help readers improve their conceptual awareness and understanding of Australia as well as find their way around this subject on Wikipedia. For examples of other pages in this set, see List of basic France topics, List of basic Thailand topics, List of basic Japan topics, List of basic Taiwan topics, and List of basic Iceland topics, all of which are currently completed to a higher level of quality than this page. In other words, it's getting its ass kicked. The List of basic Australia topics, is incomplete, needs your editing contributions, and is especially in need of maps and pictures.
  • List of Australia-related topics - (for a similar index page, see List of Germany-related topics)

Assessment log - Worklist

The WikiProject Australia assessment department focuses on assessing the quality of Wikipedia's Australian articles.

Assessments are performed via parameters in the {{WP Australia}} project banner which is posted to an article's talk page.

An assessment parameter (FA, FL, A, GA, B, C, Start, or Stub) causes the article to be rated and grouped into categories that serves as the basis for an automatically generated worklist.

While much of the work is done in conjunction with the WP:1.0 program, the article ratings are also used within the project itself to aid in recognising excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work.

Collaboration

The Australian Collaboration of the Fortnight seeks to identify particular articles that would benefit from a significant collaborative effort. Every fortnight, a single article is selected as the focus, and the project attempts to improve it, potentially to featured article standards.

Any articles dealing with some aspect of Australia (except for current featured articles and featured article candidates) are eligible, and everyone is invited to nominate articles.

The current Australian Collaboration of the Fortnight is: Isaac Isaacs

Requested images

The Requested images department aims to provide a collection of high-quality photographs, maps and images for use in Australia articles. The department gathers existing public domain and free-license maps as well as creating new ones from other materials where no suitable maps can be found. All project members are welcome to request additional maps that may be needed for particular articles from the department.

Outreach

The outreach department acts as the project's central point of coordination for recruiting new members and maintaining the interest of current participants.
