Yarram is a town in Victoria, Australia. It is in the Shire of Wellington local government area. At the 2006 census, Yarram had a population of 2106. The town is the regional centre for a prosperous dairy-farming district.The town is located about 2 hours from Wilsons Promontory. Nearby towns include Welshpool, Alberton and Foster.

History

The Post Office opened on 1 February 1861 being known as Yarram Yarram until around 1925 shortly after the railway arrived in 1921. [2]

The Town today

Yarram is known for its local bakery, which has won the Great Australian Meat Pie competition for several years running.

The town has an Australian Rules football team competing in the Alberton Football League. [3] Yarram is the home of several former AFL footballers, including Royce Vardy and Anthony Banik (Richmond Tigers) and Andrew Dunkley (Sydney Swans). Although these players do not still play in the AFL, they are still very close to their old clubs.
